In the flowplace you can find work, or have others work for you or with you. You can join existing projects, launch new businesses, monetize your social enterprise, help your social network become efficient, reactivate the economy in your neighborhood. You can also buy and sell things, just like in eBay.
But, as we said, the flowplace is much more than this. Free currencies enable building many more types of wealth than conventional money.
3. What are free currencies?
Free currencies allow you to express and build all forms of wealth, from buying and selling stuff to building reputation and trust in the circles you are part of. Free currencies also allow the measurement of things such as quality, reliability, productivity, health, sustainability, etc. Any values that count for you and the people you work with. Isn't this real capital?
Free currencies are always in sufficiency. If you have expertise, talent, creativity, time to offer or things to sell, you will never be short of free currencies. Not like in the conventional world.
4. Who owns the flowplace and who is building it?
Everyone owns it. The software is open source, the flowplace platform and the software belong to the commons.
Those who build it are world citizens who want to create a better, more efficient and more encompassing monetary system that gives everyone a chance to play. They don't operate in the name of any political party, religious group or private organization. Click here to learn more about them.
5. How much does it cost?
Nothing. Nada. As said in the name, free currencies are... free! You don't need to borrow them from a bank at an outrageous interest rate. You just join them, use them, issue them, spend them, redeem them. No Dollar, Euro or conventional money will ever be asked to be part of the game.
The flowplace will soon self-generate enough wealth in the form of free currencies to support infrastructural costs and the people who give their time to make it work. Meanwhile these people still need to pay for their rent and food in the conventional world, and servers still cost $ and €. This is the reason why donations are accepted.
6. I still don't understand the difference between "money" and "free currencies"...
Theoretically money is a public tool issued by a Nation so that citizens can engage in commerce. But reality shows quite another face: about 95% of the money in circulation today is created by private banks, and you have to pay for it by means of interest. The truth is that money is private, scarce, opaque, controled by the few. The current global financial crisis is a natural outcome of this situation.
So, no public money? Not true anymore! Free currencies circulating in flowplaces allow citizens, entrepreneurs, organizations, regions, cities, NGO's to monetize themselves and not be dependent anymore on the scarce monetary system. Hence millions of free currencies will soon circulate through the Net and our cell phones.
7. Do I need to be on my computer to make transactions?
Today, yes, unless your cell phone can connect to the Internet like a regular computer. But soon you will be able to make transactions with any cell phone through vocal servers, and even sms. Free currencies will then become accessible to most people, especially in developing countries where people are so deprived of mainstream money.
8. Isn't this too good to be true?
The flowplace and free currencies will solve many problems, but we aren't promising something from nothing. In fact quite the opposite. All wealth, and all value comes from work. What we claim is that the flowplaceremoves the central barrier that is preventing people from getting to do the work they'd really like to get to. That barrier is how people limit themselves to transacting with others depending on how much money they have.
9. How do I join the flowplace?
Right now the flowplace is in development. Weuse it for real, but in a limited community of people involved in the development. The flowplace will soon be open to beta testers, then to everyone. Sign up for the newsletter to keep in touch. You can also follow us on Twitter at @flowplace.
